Following on from our screening of Buster Keaton’s ’The General in 2010 we will have an evening of silent movies from the silver screen era that were shown in the Coliseum in times gone by.

At the Ceredigion Museum
The Inside Welsh Homes exhibition uses images from the archive of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales to give glimpse into the homes of people in Wales through time. The Commission’s images will appear alongside objects from Ceredigion Museum’s extensive collection of home furnishings and household items, allowing visitors to discover more about Welsh homes and ways of living. The opening of the exhibition will include the launch of the Royal Commission’s Inside Welsh Homes book.

Bydd delweddau’r Comisiwn i’w gweld ochr yn ochr â gwrthrychau o gasgliad helaeth Amgueddfa Ceredigion o ddodrefn ac eitemau o’r cartref, i alluogi ymwelwyr i ddysgu mwy am gartrefi’r Cymry a’u bywydau. Bydd yr arddangosfa’n agor gyda lansiad llyfr y Comisiwn Brenhinol, Tu Mewn i Gartrefi Cymru.

Evening reception on Friday 13th at 7.30p.m
With a particular focus on Ceredigion, this exhibition explores changing perceptions of
the Welsh blanket during the 19th- 21st Centuries. Is the Welsh blanket, primarily, a work of excellent craftmanship, an object of warmth and comfort or an essential source of income for the sheep farmers, dyers and weavers of Ceredigion? A selection of blankets from the Ceredigion Museum collection will be displayed alongside examples from the private collection of local collector, Jane Beck. Come along to be amazed by the wonders of water wheels and wool, whilst experiencing a visual feast of colour, texture and pattern!

Embracing Creativity Course

Creativity is the core of personal & economic development in the 21st
Century & this course is aimed at accessing & using creativity through your own chosen project. Creativity is often taken as belonging only to ‘artists’, but we can all use it, and this course is aimed at giving you access to and ways to use your own creativity using play, writing and some perspiration, through a chosen project of your own.
Start: Saturday 8th October / 10.00am – 4.00pm
(4 full day sessions: 8.10.11/ 15.10.11/29.10.11/19.11.11: dates open to group agreement)

A personal journal will be encouraged to record your journey through your project. Also suitable for writers at all levels.

Fri 26th & Sat 27th August, Weds 7th & Thurs 8th September
Saturday 27th’s screening will be followed by a discussion panel, “The Future of Energy in Wales” featuring Kim Bryan from the Center for Alternative Technology, local activist Kelvin Mason and Richard Hawkins from the Public Interest Research Center.

Just Do It lifts the lid on climate activism and the daring troublemakers who have crossed the line to become modern day outlaws. Emily James spent over a year embedded in activist groups such as Climate Camp and Plane Stupid to document their clandestine activities. With unprecedented access, Just Do It introduces you to a powerful cast of mischievous and inspiring characters who put their bodies in the way; they blockade factories, attack coal power stations and glue themselves to the trading floors of international banks despite the very real threat of arrest.

Their adventures will entertain, illuminate and inspire.
